The Ogden school district has changed the way it teaches reading in elementary schools as a result of a federal Reading First grant. With new curriculum, and considerable ongoing professional development and teacher support plus use of testing, district has been turning around its historically low reading scores. Teachers have completely changed how they teach reading in these district's 4 Reading First schools and results have been improved student test scores. With large English-language learner and economically disadvantaged populations, teachers are also addressing individual student needs with research-based instruction and progress monitoring.
