Eagle Mountain City, family, and neighbors will welcome home one of our resident heroes on Friday, November 12 beginning at 2:30 PM. SFC Mike Jones, with the Utah National Guard, was injured in Afghanistan in September during his fourth deployment in the War on Terror when his vehicle was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). SFC Jones suffered a traumatic brain injury and has been convalescing at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Eagle Mountain City traditionally holds a welcome home procession when our soldiers return from deployment. The soldier and his family are led in a convoy through the city by our fire and sheriff’s department, accompanied by Mayor Heather Jackson, down a route lined with flags and yellow ribbons. Community members are invited to stand along the route to wave and cheer. The welcome home procession tradition began with a suggestion by Kindra Jones, the wife of SFC Jones, three years ago. In 2009, Mrs. Jones received the city’s Community Hero Award for her work with veterans and for inspiring the creation of the city’s Yellow Ribbon Committee., Friday, November 12, 2010.Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune
