Third Best!

My Tribune blog Fly on the Wall was named the Third Best Blog by the Utah Headliners Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists beating out everyone but two City Weekly blogs, Colin Wolf’s The Secret Handshake and Gavin Sheehan’s Gavin’s Underground. My colleague Peggy Fletcher Stack got an Honorable Mention for her blog Following Faith.

I took third in Sports Feature with a Tour of Utah shot, which I’ll gladly post here:

Race leader Levi Leipheimer (in yellow jersey) and others in the peloton pass the state capitol building during Stage 4 of the Tour of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, Saturday, August 13, 2011

Other Tribune photo winners were:
Chris Detrick – 1st, Spot News; 2nd, Feature Photo; 2nd, Sports Feature
Djamila Grossman – 2nd, Spot News; 2nd, Photo Essay; 3rd, Photo Essay
Scott Sommerdorf – 3rd, Spot News; 1st, Sports Feature
Steve Griffin – 2nd, General News;
Sarah Miller or Leah Hogsten (not sure which) – 3rd, General News;
Al Hartmann – 1st, Feature Photo;

Big congratulations to my colleagues for their fine work!

Sorry, Smokey. I don’t have the other winning photos to post. Maybe they’ll show up on the Tribune’s photo website.

Kind of an off year in the SPJ contest for me photo-wise, but the blog win is cool, considering that the paper’s BYU Sports blog has thousands more readers than I do.

How so?

Ouch.
